This drive-in opened on Mall View in 1990 and has been run by the same family every day since. Thirty-six years of continuous operation, never handed to a management company, never run from a spreadsheet in another state. The family that owns it works it, and you will run into them on the lot.
East Hills Mall opened in 1987. We opened three years later and never left. We watched that mall fill up, empty out, and come down in 2022, and we are still on the same corner. We will be here when City Lights opens too. That is also why Happy Hour runs 2 to 5 instead of 2 to 4, and has for twenty years. Nobody made us do that. We just never took the hour back.

Happy Hour, 2 to 5 PM, every single day
Half-price drinks and slushes from 2 to 5 PM, seven days a week. SONIC’s national Happy Hour is 2 to 4. Ours has always been 2 to 5, a full hour longer. Route 44s, Cherry Limeades, Ocean Water, and every slush flavour on the board. Pull into a stall and a carhop brings it out to your car.
Open late on Mall View
We run until 1 AM Sunday through Thursday and 2 AM on Friday and Saturday. Late night is genuinely the busiest part of our day, so the kitchen and the drink station are both still going, not winding down. If you are out on the east side after most places have closed, we are open.
Drinks, slushes and frozen treats
Fountain drinks, limeades, lemonades, slushes, hand-mixed sodas, shakes, floats, sundaes and Master Blasts. Bakersfield summers make the case for a Route 44 better than we can.
We also sell bags of SONIC ice, the small chewable kind people drive out of their way for.
Finding us
We are on Mall View Road just off Oswell Street, on the east side of Bakersfield, on the same corner we have occupied since 1990. There is a drive-in stall lot, so you can park, order from the stall and stay in your car.

2 to 5 PM, every day, half price on drinks and slushes.
How late are you open?
1 AM Sunday through Thursday, and 2 AM on Friday and Saturday. We open at 8 AM every day.
Do you have ice cream?
Yes. Shakes, floats, sundaes and Master Blasts, plus slushes and cream slushes.
Can I buy a bag of ice?
Yes, we sell bagged SONIC ice at the drive-in.
